 Man killed in violence amid Karachi transport strike
 
KARACHI: A man killed in violence during public transport strike in Karachi on Friday. Angry mobs set ablaze two police posts and three motorbikes near Sohrab Goth amid a strike call given by the Pakhtoon Action Committee.

Provincial home department Advisor Waseem Akhtar has said that cases will be registered against the people given the strike call.

Buses, mini buses and coaches are almost closed and people facing problems due to scarce public transport.

University of Karachi and Federal Urdu University have postponed papers scheduled to be held today.

An angry mob started pelting stones at vehicular traffic at the highway and burnt tyres at Sohrab Goth near Al-Asif Square. The infuriated people set ablaze two police posts and three motorbikes near Sohrab Goth. A Rangers’ mobile while avoiding stone pelting mob upturned and a jawan was injured in the incident. Police baton-charged and tear-gassed mobs and dispersed the mob.

A man injured in firing during strike in Sultanabad was succumbed to bullet wound in a hospital, police said.

Infuriated people hurling stones at vehicular traffic at National Highway near Malir 15, disturbed the traffic flow on the road. The mobs also pelted stones at several trains.

Rioters burnt tyres at various localities of the metropolis including North Nazimabad, Pahar Ganj, Orangi Town, Banaras Chowk, Frontier Colony and Habib Bank Chowrangi in SITE.

Police have arrested 50 persons for involvement in disturbances and lawless incidents.

Provincial home department advisor Waseem Akhtar has said that cases will be registered against the people given the strike call.

Chairman Loya Jirga Shahi Syed has condemned arrests during the strike.
